Cork Athletics Technical Training for Autumn/Winter

For anyone that’s interested Cork Athletics are hosting a number of technical training days both for beginners and improvers in a number of Track & Field events – hurdles, shot putt, javelin, discus, high jump and hammer. This is a great opportunity to learn the proper technique from expert coaches.

The next training day is this coming Saturday October 14th in CIT at 2pm. Be there at least at 1.40pm to warm up. Cost is 5 euro per athlete.

County Cross Country Day 2

Day 2 of the county cross country was held in Conna on October8 th ,there was a bronze medal for Alex Coughlan in 11 boys with Oisin Harrington in 11 th place .Sam Bailey was 7 th in u13 boys and Aine Hickey competed in u 13 girls ..Heather McCarthy and Orlaith Hickey competed in the u 11 girls race .The u 9 team of Shane o Connell ,Alex Bramoule ,Eanna Hayes and Sean Galvin were placed 7 th .

County Cross Country Day 1

Doheny A.C. had a strong team of 17 athletes competing at the county even age cross country in Riverstick on October 1st. Heather McCarthy is county champion after taking the gold medal in the girls U.10, 1,000 meter race. There were bronze medals for Maeve O’Neill, U.14 3,000 meters race and for Sam Bailey in the U.12, 2,000 meter race and with Alex Coughlan, Tim Bailey, Oisin Harrington and Ben Coughlan they won the silver team medal. Our U.10 boys team of Calum O’Donovan, Adam Barry, Shane O’Connell, Alex Bramoule, Darragh O’Mahony and Liam O’Nrien were 5th placed team. Rhia McCarthy competed in U.10 girls as did Katie Crowley in U.12 girls. Joe Bailey ran the U.14 boys 3000 meters and Aife O’Neill was 17th in U.16 girls 4,000 meters. Well done to all.

County Uneven Age XC Sun Oct 8th

The county uneven age XC takes place this coming Sunday October 8th in Conna starting at 2pm for juveniles. Please be there for 1pm to walk the course.

To get to Conna, take the old Cork road through Watergrasshill, heading for Rathcormac. Just before coming to Rathcormac village take the road to the right signed for Midleton, Tallow and Conna. Not long after this take the road to the left signed for Tallow and Conna. Follow the XC signs on the side of the road after this.

U12 Girls: Katie Crowley

County Even-Age XC Sunday 1st Oct

It’s County cross country time again! The first cross country takes place this coming Sunday October 1st in Riverstick for even-age groups (u10, 12, 14, etc). Running starts at 12pm with adult races (u23 and novice) and this will be followed by the juvenile races starting with u10s. Juvenile races are timed to start at 1pm but may be brought forward a little. Medals are for the first 6 individual finishers and the first 3 teams. For a team score, the first four club finishers score.

Entries must be texted to Marie on 086-8417647 by Tuesday afternoon.

West Cork Cross Country Results

The West Cork Cross Country Championships were held in Bandon on September 17th , 23 athletes were in action Alex Bramoule was 2nd in the U.9 boys and with Shane O’Connell, Sean Galvin and Eanna Hayes they won the silver team medal, Grace Murray competed in U.9 girls. Heather McCarthy won the U.10 girls and Adam Barry was 3rd in U.10 boys, also competing were Darragh O’Mahony and Rhia McCarthy. Keith McCarthy was 3rd in U.12 boys and the other U.12 on the day were Alex Coughlan, Ben Coughlan, Ciara Kate Farrell, Aoife Barry, Kaite Crowley, Orlaith Hickey and Holly McCarthy. Maeve O’Neill won the U.14 girls and with Orna O’Brien and Aine Hickey they won the team bronze. Our ladies team claimed the silver medal in the team event with Martha Hickey 2nd in the novice, Dympna Murray 3rd in senior and Anna O’Neill 1st in the masters race. Well done to all in taking part.

West Cork Cross Country Sunday Sept 17th

The annual West Cork Cross Country takes place this coming Sunday September 17th just outside Bandon on the Ballinadee road. Juvenile races start at 11.30am with adult races starting around 12.30pm.

There will be races for U9, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U20 along with Senior, Master and a new Novice race (for people who have never won an individual medal in cross country at West Cork or county level and who have to be 20 years or older).

Juveniles participating should be there by 10.45am to walk the course and allow for warm up.

There will be medals for the first 3 individual finishers and also for the first 3 teams.

It is a great opportunity to be part of a team with a good chance of a team medal.
